Genevate Launches StockTwits.com - The Future of Twitter Apps is Here!

Genevate was chosen as the designers/developers of choice to create the new StockTwits web application and recently launched this new innovative web app that combines Twitter with a Stock Market business model for its community niche.

Genevate designed the logo, business cards and the sexy new design and interface, built the web application Ruby on Rails and continues to work with StockTwits to make new features every week! Genevate also created badges so every StockTwits fan can get a StockTwits badge on their own site!

StockTwits is an open, community-powered idea and information service for investments. Users can eavesdrop on traders and investors, or contribute to the conversation and build their reputation as savvy market wizards. The service takes financial related data - using Twitter as the content production platform - and structures it by stock, user, reputation, etc.

Log into the site with your Twitter details and you will be presented with a user interface filled with comments and stats showing the top ticker buzz, the top StockTwit talkers, and the top gainers and losers.

One great feature is the ability to add stocks and save them to your own portfolio and limit the conversation around it to your most trusted sources. Watch the whole stream or create your own filters. Another cool feature is the way the site aggregates ‘buzz’ and discussion around individual stocks. No other financial site on the web does that. And it does it real-time because of the Twitter integration.

The site doesn’t have a lot of features and users love it for that. The beauty is the simplicity. Messages are short and allow a person to read several interesting bits of stock information from various sources at a glance. The lightweight approach highlights the power of delivering vertical value to a horizontal community, where both constituencies share a common passion: the desire to consume and share real-time information.

Discovery is a key focus of the site. It’s important for people to find other traders and investors that help them improve. Using StockTwits it’s really easy to get the full history of “tweets” of any contributor.

In essence, StockTwits helps people interested in stocks to socialize their ideas. It focuses on stock trading, letting users discuss their latest stock trades in an interface using Twitter as the content production platform, adding features like graphs and the ability to filter messages.

Genevate Releases Branded File Sharing Web Application, DesignFTP

FTP for your Clients without the FTP Client

Cataumet, MA - Genevate recently launched a new web application called DesignFTP, intended for large file sharing for businesses, without having their clients download cumbersome software. The web application can be placed right on your website for maximum branding.

DesignFTP is a new service for graphic designers, web designers, web developers, architects, printers, photographers, publishers, or anyone that requires their clients to transfer large files to them. Clients of these particular businesses only know about email as a way to send files. Email is only meant to handle small files and not huge data or photo files that are 5MB or larger. Anything larger than 5MB should really be transferred via FTP.

Most clients don’t realize what FTP, File Transfer Protocol, is nor do they have an FTP program on their computer, which is a huge problem many times. DesignFTP was created for this reason. It allows a company that needs large files delivered by their client to add an upload form to their website very easily. Clients can then send the large files to them effortlessly without having to know FTP.

The client goes to the company’s website, clicks the choose file button, and chooses the file from their local machine via the file manager. Once one or more files have been chosen the client clicks the upload button and the files go right to the FTP server of the company. The company will then receive an email notification so they know about the file from their client.

There are a few more helpful features within the DesignFTP interface, like file logging and a 2 week file backup service. DesignFTP also allows you to add more than one FTP site.

The site is currently in private beta at http://www.designftp.com and you will have to sign up for an account to get an invitation code to try it out. There is also a screencast on the home page to explain how the service works.

DesignFTP will soon be going live and available to everyone with a very affordable pricing schedule.

Geek Girl Camp is Live! First Event in April

Leslie Fishlock, the President/CEO of Genevate, has started Geek Girl Camp!

Geek Girl Camp is a meetup and unconference that educates girls/women of all ages, on all forms of technology to assist them in their professional lives, careers, business, and at home. It is geared to empower, educate, evangelize, excite and improve the overall knowledge of the ever-evolving world of technology, specifically dealing with consumer products, computers, the Internet and web-based services.

Geek Girl Camp is dedicated to promoting technology education, including computer programming and IT, amongst school-age girls and will hopefully be offering academic scholarships soon.
